Rev. Dr. Fahed Abu-Akel was born in 1944 in the Galilean village of Kuffer-Yassif to Palestinian Orthodox Christian parents. As a four-year-old during the 1948 Nakba, his family was driven from their home. He later came to the United States, was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and in 2002 became the first Arab-American to lead a major U.S. denomination as moderator of its General Assembly. He founded the Atlanta Ministry with International Students and has spent his life in service and peacemaking.
